History
The Sobu Railway opened the station on 9 December 1894, for passengers and freight. On 1 September 1907 the station was bought under the Railway Nationalization Act and became a station of the Imperial Railways Agency.
Parcel delivery stopped on 1 October 1969. Freight handling ended on 1 November 1973. Luggage handling ended on 1 July 1978. Automatic ticket gates came into use on 15 May 1993. JR East took over the station on 1 April 1987. A Midori no Madoguchi counter closed on 31 January 2013.
Suica could be used from 18 November 2001. A temporary plaza on the north side opened on 13 April 2018. A ceremony to mark the opening of the north station plaza was held on 31 July 2023. On 1 August 2023 the temporary plaza was closed and a new plaza came into use. Smart platform doors came into use on platforms 1 and 4 on 26 September 2025, and on platforms 2 and 3 on 17 July 2026.
