Meidaimae Station (明大前駅) is in Setagaya, Tokyo. Keio runs it on the Keio Line. It opened on 15 April 1913 as Kayakukomae Station (火薬庫前駅).
History
Keio Electric Railway opened Kayakukomae Station (火薬庫前駅) on 15 April 1913. It was renamed Matsubara Station in 1917. On 1 August 1933 the Teito Electric Railway opened Nishi-Matsubara Station. On 8 February 1935 the station was renamed Meidaimae Station (明大前駅).
On 1 May 1940 the Teito line station became part of the Odawara Kyūkō Railway, a station on its Teito Line. On 1 May 1942 Odakyu was merged into Tokyu (Dai-Tokyu). On 31 May 1944 Keio Electric Railway was absorbed into Tokyu, and the station became a station on Tokyu's Keio Line. On 1 June 1948 the Inokashira Line station passed to Keio Teito Electric Railway when it separated from Tokyu.
Semi-express service started on 27 March 2001. The station building Frente Meidaimae opened on 24 May 2007. Station numbering was introduced in February 2013. Work on a continuous grade separation project began on 28 February 2014. A crossover for emergencies opened in 2017, and the approach melody was changed to the Meiji University school song on 25 March 2017.
The commuter pass counter closed on 27 February 2020. From 30 October 2021 the Keio Liner and the Mt. TAKAO train stopped here on weekends and holidays. From 12 March 2022 the semi-express service was merged into the express, and the station became a stop for the Keio Liner all day.
