Musashi-Itsukaichi Station is in Akiruno, Tokyo. East Japan Railway Company (JR East) runs it on the JC Itsukaichi Line. It opened on 21 April 1925.
History
The station opened on 21 April 1925 as Itsukaichi Station when the Itsukaichi Railway opened its section between Haijima and this station. It handled passengers and freight. On 1 June 1925 it was renamed Musashi-Itsukaichi Station. On 20 September 1925 the Musashi-Iwai line opened from this station, known as the Iwai Branch.
On 3 October 1940 the Itsukaichi Railway merged with the Nanbu Railway, and the station became a station of the Nanbu Railway. On 1 April 1944 the Nanbu Railway was nationalised under the wartime purchase of private railways, and the station became a station of the Itsukaichi Line of the Ministry of Transport and Communications. On 1 June 1949 the Japanese National Railways was formed, and the station became a station of the national Itsukaichi Line.
Freight handling ended on 15 April 1961. On 1 February 1971 passenger service between this station and Ōkuno ended, and the section between Ōkuno and Musashi-Iwai was abolished at the same time. On 15 November 1982 the line between this station and Ōkuno was abolished, and freight service ended. Parcel handling ended on 1 February 1984. On 1 April 1987 the station passed to JR East.
Work to raise the station building started in 1993. On 6 July 1996 the station was rebuilt as an elevated station. Automatic ticket gates were brought into use, and a departure melody was introduced. Suica became usable on 18 November 2001.
The station building renovation was completed at the end of March 2016, with interior and wood work using timber from Tama. On 29 April 2016 Akiruno City opened an Akigawa Keikoku tourist information corner with an opening ceremony. The Midori no Madoguchi ticket office closed on 30 September 2017. On 1 April 2018 station operations were contracted out.
