Notogawa Station (能登川駅) is in Higashiōmi, Shiga Prefecture. West Japan Railway Company runs it. It opened on 1 July 1889.

History

Notogawa Station opened on 1 July 1889 as a government railway station, when the line was extended from the branch point later called Fukaya to Baba Station (now Zeze Station). It was one of the oldest stations on that extension. On 1 April 1895 the line was named and the station came under the Tōkaidō Line.

Freight handling ended on 15 March 1972, and parcel handling on 14 March 1985. From 1 November 1986 the Shin-Kaisoku rapid service ran through to Hikone, and on that stretch its only stops are Ōmi-Hachiman and Notogawa. JR West took over on 1 April 1987. On 13 March 1988 the line was given the nickname Biwako Line.

The elevated station building opened on 15 March 2003 with elevators, escalators and an accessible toilet. ICOCA became usable on 1 November 2003.

The Midori no Madoguchi counter closed on 31 March 2012. An approach melody was introduced on 12 March 2015. Station numbering started on 17 March 2018. On 1 April 2020 station work was outsourced.
