The station opened as part of the government railway with the extension from the junction point, later known as Fukaya, to Baba Station, now known as Zeze Station, and is one of the six oldest stations on the extended section, including Nagaoka, Maibara, Hikone, Nodogawa, Yawata, and Kusatsu.
