Ookayama Station (大岡山駅) in Ota, Tokyo, is run by Tokyu Railways and serves the Tokyu Meguro Line and the Tokyu Oimachi Line. It opened on 11 March 1923.
History
The station opened on 11 March 1923 as a stop on the Meguro Kamata Electric Railway (目黒蒲田電鉄), on the line now called the Meguro Line (目黒線). A stop on the Oimachi Line (大井町線) opened on 6 July 1927.
Work to put the station underground began on 16 October 1990, with a safety prayer held that day. On 21 December 1992 the station building and ticket gates moved to a temporary elevated building, because they were in the way of the work. Between June and December 1993 the lines were moved one at a time to temporary tracks and platforms on the north side. The Oimachi Line's up line moved in June 1993, the Meguro Line's up line on 5 September 1993, and its down line on 15 December 1993.
In September 1994 the Oimachi Line's down line moved north too. This freed up a work yard on the south side. The Oimachi Line went underground on 2 June 1997. On 27 June 1997 the last Meguro Line up track above ground went underground, and the platforms were set up for each direction. The station building became a street-level station that same day. The Meguro Line's down line went underground on 27 October 1997.
On 10 December 1997 a connecting passage between the up and down platforms opened, partly as a temporary structure. An up platform escalator opened in May 1998, and station works were completed in December 1998. On 6 August 2000 the Meguro Line was split into the Meguro Line and the Tokyu Tamagawa Line, and Ookayama became a station on the Meguro and Oimachi lines. A Tokyu Hospital exit opened on 25 February 2002.
The commuter pass counter closed on 30 April 2006. On 3 November 2007 the Tokyu Hospital moved to a site directly above the station, and the Tokyu Hospital exit was renamed the East exit.
