Shiki Station (志木駅) is a station with a building over the tracks, in Niiza, Saitama Prefecture. Tobu Railway runs it on the Tobu Tojo Line. It opened on 1 May 1914.
History
Shiki Station opened on 1 May 1914, when the Tojo Railway (東上鉄道) opened between Ikebukuro and Tamezawa. The first plan ran the line from Shirako along the Kawagoe Kaido road. Local merchants and leaders asked for a site away from the Shin-Kawagishi River and the Kawagoe Kaido, and the station was built where it is now. At first it had only a north exit. On 22 July 1920 the Tojo Railway merged with Tobu Railway, and the station became part of the Tobu Tojo Line. The Ikebukuro to Kawagoe section was electrified on 1 October 1929. On 5 May 1937 the Narimasu to Shiki section was made double track.
On 1 November 1954 the double track was extended from Shiki to the old Mizuho-dai signal box, now Mizuho-dai Station. Steam locomotive operation ended on 1 April 1959. In April 1960 a south exit was built. In October 1961 the useful length of the platforms was extended. On 1 March 1970 the station moved into a building over the tracks on the Ikebukuro side.
Freight handling ended on 21 October 1986. On 25 August 1987 the line between Wako-shi and Shiki was made four tracks, and through running with the Tokyo Metro Yurakucho Line began. In August 1995 Tobu installed its first air-conditioned waiting room here.
On 26 March 1998 limited express trains began to pass through without stopping. On 25 February 2000 the station building st.TOSCA opened. On 18 March 2008 the station began using departure melodies. On 14 June 2008 the station became a stop for the new Kaisoku Kyūkō (快速急行) trains, and through running with the Tokyo Metro Fukutoshin Line began. On 16 March 2013 it became a stop for the new rapid (快速) trains.
Platform doors came into use on one platform on 15 February 2020. More followed on 21 March 2020, 20 February 2021 and 6 March 2021. On 18 March 2023 the rapid service was discontinued, and the station was removed from the Kaisoku Kyūkō stops.
