History, melodies, surroundingsThe station opened simultaneously with the opening of the section between Ikebukuro and Tamazawa on the Eastern Railway, and was originally planned to be built parallel to the Kawagoe Highway from Shirako (now Wakoshi Station) via Hizori and Owada, but was constructed in its current location to avoid the Shinagashigawa River and the Kawagoe Highway to the south, due to the efforts of merchants in Shiki Town and influential people along the line, with only the north exit (now East Exit) initially being established.
