Shimosa-Nakayama Station (下総中山駅) is an elevated station in Funabashi, Chiba, on the Chūō–Sōbu Line (Local), run by East Japan Railway Company. It opened on 12 April 1895 as Nakayama Station (中山駅).
History
The Sōbu Railway opened Nakayama Station on 12 April 1895 for passengers and freight. It was bought under the railway nationalization law on 1 September 1907 and became a national railway station. In 1913 the Tōkatsu man-powered railway (東葛人車鉄道) was extended to the front of the station. The station was renamed Shimosa-Nakayama on 11 September 1915. The Tōkatsu railway closed on 3 October 1918.
The station was rebuilt on 15 September 1925 and again on 23 August 1933. Air raid damage occurred on 10 June 1945. Freight handling ended on 21 April 1969. The station became elevated on 15 July 1972. East Japan Railway Company took over on 1 April 1987.
A guide chime for visually impaired passengers was installed on 20 July 1996. Suica became usable on 18 November 2001. The post of station manager was abolished on 1 April 2005, and the station was managed from Nishi-Funabashi. The Midori no Madoguchi ticket office closed on 4 February 2013.
Station work was outsourced on 1 April 2014. Smart platform doors came into use on 20 December 2021, the first in Chiba on the Sōbu Line. In April 2025 the station marked the anniversary of its opening.
