日本語で読む

Nishi Funabashi is a major railway station in Tokyo.

Nishi-Funabashi Station (西船橋駅) is in Funabashi, Chiba Prefecture. East Japan Railway Company, Tokyo Metro and Tōyō Rapid Railway all run services here. The station serves the Keiyo Line, the Musashino Line, the Tōzai Line and the Chūō–Sōbu Line (Local). It opened on 10 November 1958.

History

The station opened on 10 November 1958 as a Japanese National Railways Sōbu line station, in an old building, for passengers only. The old station had one island platform with two tracks, on what is now the Sōbu rapid line. When the Sōbu line was made quadruple track, the old platform was removed. On 15 December 1968, the local tracks moved and a new station building was built, as a bridge station. Freight handling began on 8 April 1969. The Tōzai Line opened on 29 March 1969, and its trains began running through to the Sōbu local line.

Musashino and Keiyo line services started between 1978 and 1988. The Musashino Line opened on 2 October 1978, using two platforms. The first section of the Keiyo Line, from here to Chiba-minato, opened on 3 March 1986. The Midori no Madoguchi ticket counter opened on 20 March 1986. Freight handling ended on 1 November 1986. On 1 April 1987, the station passed to JR East. On 1 December 1988, the Keiyo Line's second section opened, and through trains to the Musashino Line began.

Safety, transit links and shops changed from 1992 to 2007. Emergency train stop devices that passengers could use were installed at many places on 23 January 1992. On 16 March 1996, platform work on the Tōzai Line was moved to Tokyo Metro. The Tōyō Rapid Railway opened on 27 April 1996, and it began through running with the Tōzai Line. Suica became usable at JR East on 18 November 2001. Tokyo Metro was privatised on 1 April 2004. The shopping area Dila Nishi-Funabashi opened on 15 January 2005. On 18 March 2007, the gates were split, and PASMO became usable at Tokyo Metro and the Tōyō Rapid Railway.

The Dila shops and the station's transfer facilities were updated from 2011 to 2015. Dila Nishi-Funabashi reopened after renovation on 26 June 2011, and an annex and another Dila shop opened on 11 October 2011. The Biyu Plaza travel centre closed on 29 September 2012. Tokyo Metro built a lift at the south exit on 31 March 2013. Solar power systems were installed on the Tōzai Line stations on 28 March 2015, and a departure melody was added to the Tōzai Line platform on 9 June 2015.

Platform doors, ticket services and shops changed from 2018 onward. The Dila shop was taken over by a new operator on 1 April 2018, and it became Peli Nishi-Funabashi. A STATION BOOTH workspace opened inside JR gates on 27 November 2020. JR East started platform doors on the Sōbu local platforms on 12 June 2021. The Midori no Madoguchi counter closed on 19 February 2024. Slit-frame doors were started on JR Sōbu local platforms in November 2025, and a talk-to-staff reserved seat ticket machine was installed on 17 November 2025. Platform doors were started on Tokyo Metro and Tōyō Rapid platforms on 20 December 2025 and 7 March 2026.
