Shinanomachi Station (信濃町駅) is a ground-level station in Shinjuku, Tokyo, on the Chūō–Sōbu Line (Local), run by East Japan Railway Company. It opened on 9 October 1894 as a Kōbu Railway (甲武鉄道) station.
History
The Kōbu Railway opened the station on 9 October 1894, when the Shinjuku to Ushigome section opened. It was nationalized on 1 October 1906 and became a national railway station. On 12 October 1909 it was assigned to the Chūō East Line, which later became the Chūō Line. Freight handling ended on 1 February 1941, and luggage handling ended on 1 December 1963.
The station building was rebuilt on 11 June 1980. East Japan Railway Company took over on 1 April 1987. Automatic ticket gates came into use on 23 November 1991. The JR Shinanomachi Building opened on 26 February 1993. Suica became usable on 18 November 2001.
The Midori no Madoguchi ticket office closed on 20 February 2008. From 1 February 2019 the station was unstaffed early in the morning, run by a remote station operating system. Platform doors came into use on 22 June 2020. The Atrevi Shinanomachi shopping building reopened as Atre Shinanomachi on 1 February 2021. Eki-net Q Ticket service started on 1 October 2025.
