Before its opening, the station was tentatively referred to as "Nanidagaya Station" based on the local place name to the east of the station, but it was named Shin-kashiwa Station considering factors such as the anticipated change in the surrounding area's place name from "Nanidagaya" to "Shin-kashiwa".
