History
Sobudai-Mae Station (相武台前駅) opened on 1 April 1927 as Zama Station (座間駅) in Zama village. It was a stop for the through service (直通). Local trains ran only between Shinjuku and Inada-Noboribe (now Mukaigaoka-Yuen), and did not reach this station. On 1 January 1937, the station was renamed Military Academy-mae Station (士官学校前駅). On 1 September 1937, express trains began stopping here. On 15 December 1940, the station was renamed Sobudai-Mae Station. In November 1944, express service was suspended as the war situation worsened. In June 1945, local trains began running the full line, and the station became a stop for them. The through service ended then.
On 1 October 1946, a semi-express service was set up and stopped here. On 25 March 1960, a commuter semi-express service was set up, and some commuter express and express services began stopping here too. On 19 October 1962, the Sobudai factory closed. In July 1970, the station was rebuilt as an elevated station. On 16 April 1971, the station building was completed. On 1 December 1972, the south exit was completed.
