Sōbudaishita Station (相武台下駅) is a ground-level station in Sagamihara. East Japan Railway Company runs it. It is on the Sagami Line. It opened on 29 April 1931.
History
The station opened on 29 April 1931 as Zama-Shindo Station (座間新戸駅) on the Sagami Railway. It opened when the line between Atsugi and Hashimoto opened. On 20 August 1935 a siding inside the station yard was extended. On 1 October 1938 the station was renamed Rikushi-mae Station (陸士前駅). On 1 November 1941 it was renamed Zama-machi Station. On 15 November 1941 it was renamed Sōbudaishita Station. On 1 June 1944 the Sagami Railway was nationalised, and the station became part of the Sagami Line of the Ministry of Transport and Communications.
In 1962 there were private sidings from the station yard to the Sagami River, used to carry gravel. There was also a narrow-gauge trolley line, the Odakyu Gravel Track (小田急砂利軌道). Freight handling ended on 10 October 1962. Parcel handling ended on 1 February 1984. On 1 April 1987 the station became part of JR East.
When the Sagami Line was electrified in 1991, the platforms were raised and a footbridge was installed. The Suica IC card became usable on 18 November 2001. Station operations were outsourced in April 2004. The ticket office closed on 26 December 2014. On 13 March 2016 the station became unstaffed under remote management from Hashimoto Station, and a multi-function ticket machine was installed. The new station building opened on 7 July 2016.
