Tobu-Dobutsu-Koen Station (東武動物公園駅) is in Miyashiro, Saitama Prefecture. Tobu Railway runs it. The Tobu Isesaki Line, Tobu Nikko Line and Tobu Skytree Line serve it. It opened on 27 August 1899 as Sugito Station (杉戸駅).
History
The station opened on 27 August 1899 as Sugito Station (杉戸駅), when the Tobu Railway line from Kita-Senju to Kuki opened. On 1 April 1929, the Tobu Nikko Line opened from here to Shin-Kanuma. On 16 March 1981, the station was renamed Tobu-Dobutsu-Koen Station, and its station building was moved onto an overpass. The Tobu Dobutsu Koen park opened later that month. A Tokyo Metro Hibiya Line through service was extended from Kita-Kasukabe to this station.
On 19 March 2003, all Ryomo limited express trains began stopping here. Through trains to the Tokyo Metro Hanzomon Line and the Tokyu Den-en-toshi Line also started that day. On 31 March 2004, the Tobu Sugito Works closed and merged into the Minami-Kurihashi depot. On 18 March 2006, one weekday down train of the Kirifuri limited express began stopping here. On 15 September 2006, shops in the station were consolidated, and a commercial facility called STATION GARDEN opened. On 21 January 2011, departure melodies were introduced. On 1 April 2011, an elevator and a multipurpose toilet came into use. On 30 September 2012, the commuter pass and coupon ticket counter closed.
On 16 March 2013, a timetable change ended the daytime section semi-express. The Hibiya Line through service was also extended from this station to Minami-Kurihashi. On 1 August 2013, the departure melody changed to the Tobu Dobutsu Koen theme song. On 13 May 2014, a new west exit and overhead bridge opened, and the old ones closed. On 23 February 2015, the west station square opened. On 26 March 2015, automatic station announcements were introduced. On 21 April 2017, the Kirifuri was abolished, and the Liberty Kegon and Liberty Ryomo began stopping here. Those trains split here.
On 1 February 2018, a secondary station name, Nihon Kogyo Daigaku-mae (日本工業大学前), was added. On 6 June 2020, the reserved-seat TH Liner began and started stopping here. The Liberty Kegon, which had stopped here, was abolished, so trains that split here no longer ran. Around December 2024, the secondary name ended.
