Ujiie Station (氏家駅) is a ground-level station in Sakura, Tochigi. East Japan Railway Company runs it. It is on the Utsunomiya Line. It opened on 25 February 1897.
History
Ujiie Station (氏家駅) opened on 25 February 1897 on the Nippon Railway. It opened when the route between Utsunomiya and Yaita was changed. On 21 February 1902 the Kitsuregawa Hitokuruma Railway (喜連川人車鉄道) opened, a railway using human-powered cars. The Railway Nationalisation Act took the line into state ownership on 1 November 1906. On 12 October 1909 the station became part of the Tōhoku Main Line. The Kitsuregawa Hitokuruma Railway closed on 22 June 1918.
The current station building was rebuilt in March 1938. Parcel handling ended on 1 February 1984. On 1 April 1987 the station became part of East Japan Railway Company (JR East) and JR Freight. In 1996 cement was carried from the north side of the station on a private line to the Sumitomo Cement (now Sumitomo Osaka Cement) Ujiie service station. Freight train service ended on 16 March 1996.
The Suica IC card became usable on 16 October 2004. The JR Freight station closed on 1 April 2007, and freight handling officially ended. The Midori no Madoguchi ticket office closed on 19 February 2016.
On 12 March 2022 the timetable changed. Trains between Kuroiso and Utsunomiya became one-man operation, and green car service through this station ended. In 2025 the automatic ticket gates were removed and a simple Suica gate was installed.
