History
Urayasu Station (浦安駅) opened on 29 March 1969. Before then, the town of Urayasu had been called an isolated island on land. After the station opened, the area quickly became a commuter town. At opening, rapid trains did not stop here. On 9 June 1975, rapid trains began stopping here on weekday daytimes and on holidays. On 15 April 1983, Tokyo Disneyland opened in Maihama, in Urayasu. At first, visitors travelled by route bus from the Urayasu bus terminal near this station. On 16 January 1985, a large renovation of the station began. On 1 November 1986, weekday morning rapid trains toward Nihonbashi, Otemachi and Nakano began stopping at each station beyond here. In July 1987, the renovation was completed. The platforms and concourse were widened, and connecting stairs were added.
On 1 December 1988, JR East's Maihama Station opened on the Keiyo Line, and the Tokyo Disneyland drop-off function moved there. On 16 March 1996, all rapid trains began stopping here. The rapid train that did not stop between Toyocho and Nishi-Funabashi ended. The rapid trains toward Nihonbashi and Otemachi that stopped at each station beyond here became Commuter Rapid (通勤快速) trains. On 1 April 2004, the station came under Tokyo Metro after the Eidan was privatised. On 18 March 2007, PASMO became usable.
In January 2011, a large renovation of the station building began, as the building had aged after many years. In February 2013, the renovation was completed. On 26 March 2013, solar power systems were installed at Tozai Line stations as part of the Tozai Line solar power plant plan. On 13 June 2015, a departure melody was introduced. On 16 March 2019, a new weekday morning train starting from here was set up.
