Yokosuka is a railway station in Tokyo.

Yokosuka Station (横須賀駅) is in Yokosuka, Kanagawa Prefecture. East Japan Railway Company runs it on the Yokosuka Line. It opened on 16 June 1889.

History

The station opened on 16 June 1889 as the terminus when the government railway opened from Ōfuna. On 12 October 1909 it became a station on the Yokosuka Line. In April 1940 a new station building, the third, was completed. On 1 April 1944 the Yokosuka Line was extended to Kurihama.

A car-transport base opened on 1 October 1966. A Midori no Madoguchi counter appeared around 1972. The car-transport base closed on 1 October 1980.

Freight handling ended on 1 February 1984. Around 1985 a single-track freight platform and car-loading tracks were on the south side, by the national road. Parcel handling ended on 14 March 1985. JR East took over on 1 April 1987. Automatic gates opened on 3 August 1993.

In 1997 the station was included in a Kanto station list, for being a flat station with no stairs at all. Suica began on 18 November 2001. On 1 December 2001 the Shōnan-Shinjuku Line started. On 16 October 2004 Shōnan-Shinjuku trains that started or ended here or at Kurihama stopped, and the line's terminals became Ōfuna and Zushi. A bus terminal rebuild in 2009 removed an underground passage to the bus stops.

From 15 March 2014 some Narita Express trains from Yokohama and Ōfuna were extended to here on weekends, holidays and in the peak season, for a limited period. The station was outsourced on 1 July 2016.
