Yūrakuchō Station (有楽町駅) is an elevated station in Chiyoda, Tokyo. It serves the Yamanote Line, the Yūrakuchō Line and the Keihin–Tōhoku Line. East Japan Railway Company (JR East) and Tokyo Metro run it. It opened in 1910.
History
Yūrakuchō Station opened on 25 June 1910 as the end station of a branch of the Tōkaidō Main Line, run by the Railway Agency (鉄道院). On 15 September 1910, Gofukubashi Station opened, and Yūrakuchō became a middle station. On 27 January 1945, air raids during the Pacific War badly damaged the central ticket gate, and many staff and passengers were killed.
On 15 March 1972, parcel handling ended. On 30 October 1974, the Yūrakuchō Line station opened, and through ticketing with Hibiya Station began. On 1 April 1987, the national railway was split up and privatised, and the station became part of East Japan Railway Company (JR East). On 13 March 1988, when Keihin–Tōhoku Line rapid service started, its trains began passing through during the daytime.
On 16 February 1990, automatic ticket gates were installed at the Sogo and central exits. On 23 February 1990, they were installed at the Kyōbashi and Tochō exits. On 2 March 1990, they were installed at the Ginza exit. On 25 March 1994, they were installed at the Hibiya exit. On 18 November 2001, Suica became usable. On 1 April 2004, the Teito Rapid Transit Authority was privatised, and the station passed to Tokyo Metro.
On 18 March 2007, PASMO became usable. On 10 March 2012, platform doors started operating. On 30 August 2014, platform doors started on the Yamanote Line platforms. On 26 September 2018, platform doors started on the Keihin–Tōhoku Line platforms. On 30 March 2019, the View Plaza ticket office closed.
On 24 March 2020, an passage inside the ticket gates opened, linking the International Forum exit, the Kyōbashi exit, the central exit and the central west exit. In late April 2020, the concourses inside the central and central west exit gates were extended. On 8 June 2020, a STATION BOOTH shared-office booth opened inside the Sumitomo Life Vitality Plaza Yūrakuchō store. On 31 August 2020, the Ekiute Edition Yūrakuchō shopping area opened. On 31 October 2022, the Midori no Madoguchi ticket window closed. On 2 November 2024, a customer support call system was introduced at the Ginza exit. On 1 October 2025, Eki-net Q Ticket service started.
