Asagaya Station (阿佐ケ谷駅) is an elevated station in Suginami, Tokyo. East Japan Railway Company runs it on the Chūō Line (Rapid) and the Chūō–Sōbu Line (Local). It opened on 15 July 1922.
History
The station opened on 15 July 1922 as a Railway Ministry passenger station. Japanese National Railways took over on 1 June 1949. The double track was elevated in September 1964. Parcel handling ended on 1 April 1966. The elevated works were completed on 3 April 1966. On 28 April 1966 the Chūō–Sōbu local trains were extended from Nakano to Ogikubo and linked with the Tōzai Line.
On 17 September 1967 a fire broke out in the Dia-gai shopping street under the elevated tracks and burned several shops. An escalator was installed on the rapid platforms on 29 September 1975.
JR East took over on 1 April 1987. Automatic gates opened on 28 January 1992. On 3 December 1994 Saturdays were added to the days when rapid trains skip this station. An escalator was installed on the local platforms on 31 May 1995.
Suica became usable on 18 November 2001. The station building was rebuilt on 2 May 2003, and the commercial facility Dila Asagaya opened. The departure melody was changed to the children's song Tanabata-sama on 7 July 2014. The commercial facility Beans Asagaya opened on 18 October 2019 in the renovated Dila building.
The Midori no Madoguchi closed on 18 March 2022. Eki-net Q-ticket service began on 1 October 2025. Sliding-frame platform doors for the local platforms were planned for fiscal year 2026. Smart platform doors started on the rapid platforms on 15 July 2026.
