Den-en-chōfu Station (田園調布駅) is an underground station in Ōta Ward, Tokyo. Tokyu Railways runs it on the Tokyu Meguro Line and the Tokyu Toyoko Line. It opened on 11 March 1923 as Chōfu Station (調布駅).
History
Den-en-chōfu Station opened on 11 March 1923 as Chōfu Station (調布駅), on the Meguro to Maruko (now Numabe) section of the Meguro Kamata Electric Railway. Its platforms were on opposite sides of the tracks. It was renamed Den-en-chōfu on 1 January 1926. On 28 August 1927, a Tokyu Toyoko Line station opened here, and a platform for the Mekama Line was added on the east side.
In November 1964, the overpass was abolished and replaced by an underpass. In November 1988, work started on the multi-track project for the Toyoko Line between here and Tamagawaen. On 27 June 1990, trains were moved to temporary platforms a short distance toward Yokohama and Kamata. On 26 August 1990, a festival run by a local association was held, with a farewell event for the old west station building. On 4 September 1990, the old east and west station buildings stopped being used and were demolished. From the next day, the station operated in a temporary elevated station building on the Tamagawaen side. On 11 September 1990, the connecting underpass between east and west was closed, and a temporary overpass was used. On 25 October 1991, Mekama Line down trains moved to a temporary platform on the seaward side. On 15 November 1991, Mekama Line up trains did the same.
On 27 November 1994, the Mekama Line platform went underground. On 1 June 1995, the down Toyoko Line platform went underground, and the up platform followed later that year. The station building moved from an elevated building to a ground-level one. On 12 March 1996, the underground station was completed. On 17 January 1997, the station office became permanent, and passenger toilets opened. In April 1997, the bus terminal was completed. On 15 January 2000, the old station building was restored as a symbol of the station, though it is not used as a station building. On 6 August 2000, the Mekama Line was split into the Meguro Line and the Tokyu Tamagawa Line, and this station became a station on the Meguro Line.
In October 2010, work started to extend the Toyoko Line platform. On 16 March 2013, the extended part of the Toyoko Line platform came into use. In 2019, the station was chosen as one of the featured stations of the Kantō region.
