Tamagawa Station (多摩川駅) in Ota, Tokyo, is run by Tokyu Railways and serves the Tokyu Meguro Line, Tokyu Tamagawa Line and Tokyu Toyoko Line. It opened on 11 March 1923.
History
The station opened on 11 March 1923 as Tamagawa Station of the Meguro Kamata Electric Railway (目黒蒲田電鉄), when the line from Meguro to Maruko (now Numabe) opened. On 1 January 1925 it moved toward Meguro and was renamed Maruko-Tamagawa Station (丸子多摩川駅), with more platforms. The Toyoko Line opened on 14 February 1925. On 1 January 1931 the station was renamed Tamagawaen-mae (多摩川園前駅), after the nearby Tamagawaen amusement park.
A level crossing inside the station was removed in July 1935 and replaced by an underpass. On 16 December 1977 the station was renamed Tamagawaen Station (多摩川園駅). The amusement park later closed.
Rebuilding of the section between Den-en-chōfu (田園調布) and Tamagawa began in November 1988. The Meguro Line down track moved to a temporary elevated platform on the sea side on 17 January 1992, and the Toyoko Line down track on 13 May 1992. The Meguro up track moved on 17 July 1992, and the Toyoko up track on 25 November 1993. The Meguro Line began using underground platforms on 27 November 1994. Permanent elevated platforms replaced the temporary ones for the Toyoko up line on 17 December 1995, and for the Toyoko down line on 4 February 1996, when the platforms were also renumbered. The station office and gates moved to permanent buildings on 14 January 1997. Improvement works were completed in June 1997.
On 6 August 2000 the Meguro Line was separated from the Tamagawa Line, and the station was renamed Tamagawa Station again. It became an express stop on the Tokyu Toyoko Line.
