Gotanda Station (五反田駅) is an elevated station in Shinagawa, Tokyo. Three railways serve it: the Yamanote Line (JR East), the Ikegami Line (Tokyu Railways) and the Asakusa Line (Toei Subway). It opened on 15 October 1911.
History
Gotanda Station opened on 15 October 1911 as a station of the Railway Agency (鉄道院) on the Yamanote Line. It handled passengers and luggage. On 17 June 1928 the Ikegami Electric Railway (池上電気鉄道, now Tokyu Railways) opened its station here.
On 24 May 1945 an air raid burned the station building. On 15 November 1968 a Toei Subway station opened on what was then the first Toei line (now the Asakusa Line). On 1 July 1978 that line was renamed the Asakusa Line. On 1 February 1984 the national railway station stopped handling luggage. On 1 April 1987 the national railway was split up, and the station became part of the Yamanote Line under JR East.
On 7 December 1991 automatic ticket gates came into use at the main exit of the JR station. On 1 March 2000 automatic gates opened on the passage between JR and Tokyu. On 18 November 2001 Suica became usable at the JR station. On 18 March 2007 PASMO became usable at the Tokyu and Toei stations. On 14 March 2008 the Atrevi Gotanda shopping facility opened, and remy gotanda followed on 20 April 2008. On 29 August 2012 a lift was installed on the passage between Tokyu and JR.
On 28 March 2015 platform doors began on the Yamanote Line. On 12 March 2020 the Midori no Madoguchi closed. On 26 March 2020 the JR East Hotel Metsu Gotanda (JR東日本ホテルメッツ五反田) and Atre Gotanda 2 opened, and Atrevi Gotanda was renamed Atre Gotanda 1. On 24 April 2020 remy gotanda was renamed Gotanda Tokyu Square. On 30 April 2020 the Tokyu commuter pass counter closed.
On 1 February 2022 the JR station became a contract-run station. On 20 March 2025 platform doors began on the Ikegami Line. On 1 October 2025 JR East started its Eki-net Q Ticket service (えきねっとQチケ).
