Haijima is a major railway station in Tokyo.

Haijima Station (拝島駅) is a station in Akishima, Tokyo. JR East, Seibu Railway and JR Freight operate here. Lines: Hachikō Line, JC Itsukaichi Line and JC Ōme Line. It opened on 19 November 1894.

History

The Ome Railway opened its Tachikawa to Ome line on 19 November 1894, and this station opened with it. It had a wooden single-storey building on the south side.

On 21 April 1925 the Itsukaichi Railway opened a temporary stop here. On 15 May 1925 the line was extended, the temporary stop closed, and the station moved to a new building on the south side.

The Itsukaichi Railway connected to Tachikawa on 13 July 1930. On 10 December 1931 the Hachiko Line opened between Hachioji and Higashi-Hanno, and a platform and underpass were added here. On 3 October 1940 the Itsukaichi Railway merged with the Nanbu Railway. On 1 April 1944 the Ome and Nanbu lines were nationalised. On 11 October 1944 the Itsukaichi line from Tachikawa to this station was suspended as a non-essential line.

A third station building was built in August 1959, with a footbridge linking the Itsukaichi platform and the Ome line platform. The Seibu Haijima Line opened to this station on 15 May 1968, and a north exit was added. The station building was rebuilt as a bridge station, and the work was completed in March 2010.

JR East ended parcel handling on 1 February 1984. On 1 April 1987 the station passed to JR East and JR Freight after the national railways were split up and privatised. Suica could be used from 18 November 2001, and PASMO from 18 March 2007. The Midori no Madoguchi ticket office closed on 31 October 2023, and a talking reserved-seat ticket machine was installed on 1 November 2023.
