History
Hiyoshi Station (日吉駅) opened on 14 February 1926 as a station of the Tokyo Yokohama Electric Railway (later the Tokyu Electric Railway). At opening it had side platforms. In 1936, it became an elevated station with two island platforms and four tracks.
In June 1964, a freight line was removed to make room for two sidings, used when Hibiya Line trains turned back. An underground passage and the east ticket gate opened then. On 1 June 1974, automatic ticket gates were installed. On 11 March 1988, rebuilding began for the quadruple-track work on the Toyoko Line. During the work, the station had a single platform with two tracks. From the August 1988 timetable change, express trains passed at Motosuyoshi Station (元住吉駅), and Hibiya Line trains ran to Kikuna. On 1 April 1989, the up line moved to the old passing track of the down line, and the down platform became an island platform shared by both directions. On 7 April 1990, the up line went underground, at the current fourth platform. On 31 August 1990, the down line went underground. The current third platform was used temporarily, and the up platform became an island shared by both directions. On 29 May 1991, the down line moved to the permanent first platform. On 22 November 1991, the improvement work was completed. The station became a half-underground station with two island platforms and four tracks. On 9 November 1995, the station building was completed, and Tokyu Department Store moved in.
In 1999, the station was chosen for the Kanto region's list of stations. The reason given was that it is a bright, open station, where soft light comes in through a tall atrium. On 19 March 2003, the commuter express began stopping here. On 23 August 2007, the platforms for the Meguro Line were changed. Express trains passed at Motosuyoshi, and Hibiya Line trains ran only to and from Kikuna all day. On 7 March 2008, platform doors were installed on platforms two and three, used by the Meguro Line. On 30 March 2008, the Yokohama Municipal Subway Green Line opened. On 1 May 2012, docomo Wi-Fi service began.
On 22 June 2015, the Meguro Line was extended from Musashi-Kosugi to this station. On 18 March 2023, the Tokyu Shin-Yokohama Line opened.
