History
Komagawa Station (高麗川駅) opened on 15 April 1933 on the Railway Ministry's Hachiko Line, with the Higashi-Hanno to Ogose section. It was an ordinary station. At the time, the area was Komagawa village in Iruma District, and the station name comes from it. On 27 April 1939, an imperial train carrying Emperor Showa, on its way to the Army Military Academy, arrived and departed. On 22 July 1940, the Kawagoe Line section from Omiya to this station opened.
On 16 May 1963, a private siding for Nihon Cement (now Taiheiyo Cement) began operating. On 1 October 1969, delivery handling ended. On 1 February 1984, luggage handling ended. Until 1984, another siding to the same plant branched off from Nishi-Oya Station (西大家駅) on the Tobu Ogose Line. In 1999, the siding to Taiheiyo Cement's Saitama plant carried cement made there. It was a non-electrified siding, and JR locomotives did the hauling. The plant used its own switcher locomotive for shunting. The siding closed on 20 September 1999. On 1 April 2005, the Japan Freight Railway station here closed. In 2009 the old siding land was donated to Hidaka city and made into a walking path called Poppo Michi (ポッポ道), with some crossings and track kept.
On 30 September 1985, the Kawagoe Line was electrified. On 1 April 1987, the national railway was split up, and the station became a station of JR East and Japan Freight Railway. On 16 March 1996, the Hachiko Line was electrified between Hachioji and this station. On 18 November 2001, Suica became usable. On 18 March 2007, a new type of electric train began running into this station on Central Line through services. On 12 March 2022, the Central Line through services ended.
On 1 April 2013, the barrier-free work was completed, and elevators came into use. On 31 January 2021, the Midori no Madoguchi ticket window closed. On 1 March 2021, a reserved-seat ticket machine with voice guidance was introduced. On 8 December 2024, the new station building opened, and the old one stopped being used. On 20 March 2026, an east-west free passage opened.
