Kuki Station (久喜駅) in Kuki, Saitama, is run by East Japan Railway Company and Tobu Railway. It serves the Utsunomiya Line and the Tobu Isesaki Line, and opened on 16 July 1885.
History
The station opened on 16 July 1885 as a Nippon Railway station on the line now called the Utsunomiya Line (宇都宮線). The Tobu Railway line from Kita-Senju to this station opened on 27 August 1899. On 6 September 1902 the Tobu line was extended from here to Kazo. The Nippon Railway was nationalised on 1 November 1906, and the station was then shared by the government railway and Tobu. On 12 October 1909 the station was placed on the Tōhoku Main Line (東北本線).
A second station building was in use from 29 February 1936. A third station building, elevated, was built on 20 November 1970, and the east exit opened at the same time. In October 1972 some express trains on the Tohoku Main Line began to stop here.
JR East took over on 1 April 1987. Suica became usable on 18 November 2001. Tobu freight trains ended on 30 September 2003. On 18 March 2006 Tobu Isesaki Line trains began running through to the Hanzōmon Line and the Tokyu Den-en-toshi Line, and this station became their stop. Some Ryōmō limited express trains began to stop here. In the daytime the service was split here, and trains from Asakusa ran to this station as section semi-expresses.
PASMO became usable on Tobu on 18 March 2007. On 16 March 2013 the daytime section express was discontinued. In the daytime only Hanzōmon Line through trains run, and trains to Asakusa run only in the morning and at night. On 21 April 2017 all Ryomo and Liberty Ryomo limited express trains began to stop here. The reserved-seat TH Liner (THライナー) began on 6 June 2020, starting and ending at this station. On 20 October 2023 a talking reserved-seat ticket machine was installed, and the Midori window became a temporary window.
