The tram lines passed to the city on 1 February 1942, and on 1 July 1943 they became Tokyo's tram service, the Toden.
The Takinogawa tram line was suspended in wartime. The line reopened on 10 July 1946. The station building was moved and rebuilt on 16 June 1961. In 1966 a toilet drain was wrongly connected to a rainwater pipe, so sewage flowed into the nearby Shakujii River for decades. Temporary toilets were set up, and a proper connection was finished in April 1966. In December 1966 a point failure on the tram line left a train stuck at Oji-Ekimae.
The Toden Akabane line was abolished on 12 November 1972. Freight handling ended on 15 February 1982, and parcel handling on 14 March 1985. JR East took over on 1 April 1987. The Namboku Line opened on 29 November 1991 with Oji as an interchange. Suica could be used at the JR station from 18 November 2001. The Namboku Line passed to Tokyo Metro on 1 April 2004, and PASMO was accepted from 18 March 2007.
After a point failure at the Oji-Ekimae tram stop, turnbacks there were halted, and normal timetables resumed in February 2010. Platform doors came into use on JR platforms on 20 February 2018. The Bu View Plaza travel centre closed on 30 March 2018, and the green-window ticket office closed on 31 October 2022. A talking reserved-seat ticket machine was added on 1 November 2022, and Eki-net Q-Ticket began on 1 October 2025.
