Ota is a railway station in Tokyo.

Ota Station (太田駅) in Ota, Gunma, is run by Tobu Railway and serves the Tobu Isesaki Line. It opened on 17 February 1909.

History

The station opened on 17 February 1909 when the Tobu Isesaki Line opened between Ashikagamachi Station (足利町駅, now Ashikaga-shi Station) and this station. On 27 March 1910 the line opened from here to Shin-Isesaki. On 19 March 1913 the Kiryu Line opened from here to Aioi. The Tatebayashi to Isesaki section was electrified on 1 October 1927, and the Kiryu Line from here to Aioi on 1 March 1928.

On 16 November 1934 Emperor Showa toured the prefecture after the army maneuvers, and a special train ran between Ashikaga-shi and Ota and between Ota and Isesaki. A new station building was completed in April 1941. The Koizumi Line opened from here to Koizumi-machi on 1 June 1941, and was electrified from here to Nishi-Koizumi on 16 May 1943. An air raid burned the station building on 4 April 1945.

A station building was completed in February 1954, and it was rebuilt several times after that. A south exit opened in December 1966. On 18 November 1999 the Koizumi Line platform at Ota was elevated, and nearby level crossings closed. On 25 November 2004 the Tobu Isesaki and Kiryu platforms were raised, many level crossings closed, and automatic ticket gates were introduced. A new first platform was added on the north side in 2006. A north-south free passage opened in 2007, which completed the grade-separation project.

The north square was completed on 18 December 2009. Station numbering began on 17 March 2012. On 21 April 2017 a timetable change moved some train departures, and the platforms on the Isesaki side stopped being used.
