Shibamata Station is a ground-level station in Shibamata, Katsushika, Tokyo, run by Keisei Electric Railway. It serves the Keisei Kanamachi Line, and it opened on 17 December 1899.
History
The station opened on 17 December 1899 as a station on the Teishaku Jinsha Tetsudō, later called the Teishaku Jinsha Kidō. On 3 November 1912, it opened as a station of Keisei Electric Railway, and it was the terminal station at that time. On 21 October 1913, Keisei Electric Railway extended its line to Kanamachi (later Keisei-Kanamachi Station), and Shibamata became an intermediate station.
In 1945, the company name changed and the station became a station of Keisei Electric Railway (京成電鉄). In 1997, Shibamata Station was selected for Kanto's 100 Best Stations (関東の駅百選). The reason given was its tile-roof style station building, which suggests the atmosphere of Otoko wa Tsurai yo (男はつらいよ).
On 5 July 2010, the section between this station and Keisei-Takasago changed from double track to two single tracks side by side. On 26 February 2021, part of the commercial facility in front of the station, Shibamata Station Front Store, opened.
