Shingashi Station (新河岸駅) is a ground-level station with a station building over the tracks, in Kawagoe, Saitama Prefecture. Tobu Railway runs it and it serves the Tobu Tōjō Line. It opened on 17 June 1914 as Takashina Station.
History
The station opened on 17 June 1914 as Takashina Station (高階駅). On 27 October 1916 it was renamed Shingashi. On 27 July 1920 the Tōjō Railway merged into the Tobu Railway, and the station became part of the Tobu Tōjō Line. On 1 October 1929 the Ikebukuro to Kawagoe section was electrified.
On 21 August 1953 the section between Shingashi and Kamifukuoka was made double track. On 21 July 1954 the section between Shingashi and Kawagoe was made double track. On 1 April 1959 steam locomotives stopped running. In October 1961 the usable platform length was extended. On 1 December 1967 some trains began running with more cars. On 21 October 1986 freight service ended completely.
On 25 August 1987 Yurakucho Line through trains of the Teito Rapid Transit Authority (now Tokyo Metro) began to stop here, and commuter express services were introduced. On 18 March 2007 PASMO became usable. On 14 June 2008 Fukutoshin Line through trains began to stop here. On 18 May 2009 a departure melody was introduced. On 16 March 2013 through-running with the Tokyu Toyoko Line and the Yokohama Minatomirai Line began via the Fukutoshin Line.
On 26 March 2016 the commuter express was abolished. On 28 November 2017 the kiosk access closed. On 2 December 2017 an east-west free passage opened. On 3 December 2017 the station building over the tracks came into use.
On 13 March 2018 the east station square opened. On 1 April 2018 buses began to enter the east square, and drop-off parking began. On 17 April 2018 test background music started in the station. On 30 November 2018 the background music became a regular service.
