Shinkoshigaya Station (新越谷駅) is an elevated station in Koshigaya, Saitama Prefecture. Tobu Railway runs it on the TS Tobu Skytree Line. It opened on 23 July 1974.
History
On 1 April 1973 the Musashino Line of Japanese National Railways opened between Fuchu-Honmachi and Shin-Matsudo, and Minami-Koshigaya Station was set up. On 23 July 1974 Tobu Railway opened Shinkoshigaya Station (新越谷駅), which gave passengers a transfer to Minami-Koshigaya. In November 1987 Saitama Prefecture decided on a city-planning project to rebuild the section from Gamo to Kita-Koshigaya as an elevated line with four tracks. Construction began in July 1989.
On 8 October 1993 the down platform was moved onto the elevated structure, with two escalators. The up platform followed on 2 November 1994. On 3 December 1994 the west exit got two escalators. On 21 January 1995 the ticket gates moved to the third floor, with escalators outside them. On 23 September 1995 a lift opened on the down platform and another outside the gates. On 26 July 1996 another lift and two more escalators opened.
Before 1997 only local trains stopped at the station. Transfers to the Musashino Line and population growth from development around the area had raised demand for express stops, and morning rush-hour trains were very crowded. On 24 March 1997 the east exit got two escalators. On 25 March 1997 the timetable changed after the elevated four-track line south of Koshigaya was completed. Shinkoshigaya became a stop for express trains, and a section express was created that ran fast only south of here. On 26 March 1998 a new five-storey station building was completed, and the Shin-Koshigaya Varie shopping complex (新越谷ヴァリエ) opened in it.
In December 2002 the station became a stop for the Oze Night (尾瀬夜行) and Snow Pal (スノーパル) trains. On 19 March 2003 Tokyo Metro's Hanzomon Line through trains began running and stopping here. On 18 March 2006 the timetable changed, and the through services were renamed. The station became a stop for express, section express and semi-express trains.
On 20 December 2010 a departure melody was introduced here, at the same time as Koshigaya and Sengendai stations. On 17 March 2012 the station number TS 20 was set. During the Minami-Koshigaya Awa Odori festival in August 2015, the departure melody changed to a tune based on the Awa Odori festival music. The change has been repeated each August since. On 6 June 2020 the station became a stop for TH Liner trains. Platform doors came into use on platforms 1 and 4 on 27 February 2021, and on platforms 2 and 3 on 7 March 2021.
