History
The station opened on 17 April 1920 as Koshigaya-ga-ya Station (越ヶ谷駅). On 1 December 1956, it was renamed Koshigaya Station (越谷駅). On 22 September 1966, an upbound limited express train and a Tobu bus collided at a level crossing inside the station yard. Four people died and twelve were injured. In 1972, the station plaza was enlarged, and the memorial for the opening of the station was moved to Hisazu Shrine (久伊豆神社). In 1982, the station building was rebuilt as a two-storey building. A café and a Tobu Books shop (Books Koshigaya) opened on the second floor. A fountain was added to the station rotary.
On 30 August 1989, a west exit opened. On 8 October 1993, the down line was moved onto an elevated track. On 2 November 1994, the up line was moved onto an elevated track too. On 7 December 1995, an elevator and an escalator came into use on the up platform. On 18 March 1996, another escalator on the up platform came into use. On 21 December 1996, an elevator and two escalators came into use on the down platform. On 25 March 1997, the four-track elevated line was completed, and trains from Soka were extended to this station. On 28 March 2001, the elevated four-track line between here and Kita-Koshigaya was finished. Trains that had started and ended here went back to starting and ending at Kita-Koshigaya.
On 20 December 2010, departure melodies were introduced. In November 2011, the opening memorial was moved back to the station plaza. On 17 March 2012, the Tobu Skytree Line station numbers were introduced. In August 2012, the east station plaza was enlarged, and a covered passage was built linking the station building with the Koshigaya Twin City. On 30 September 2012, the commuter pass and coupon counter closed. On 16 March 2013, the daytime section semi-express was discontinued. In the daytime, only through trains to the Tokyo Metro Hibiya Line, the Hanzomon Line and the Tokyu Den-en-toshi Line ran. Trains to and from Asakusa ran only in the morning and at night.
On 17 November 2022, platform doors came into use on the local line platforms. On 7 December 2023, a commercial facility, EQUiA Koshigaya, opened under the elevated tracks. On 8 March 2025, platform doors came into use on the express line platforms.
