Tsudanuma Station (津田沼駅) is a station in Narashino, Chiba Prefecture. East Japan Railway Company runs it. It serves the Chūō–Sōbu Line (Local) and the Sōbu Line (Rapid). It opened on 21 September 1895 as a station of the Sōbu Railway (総武鉄道).
History
The Sōbu Railway opened Tsudanuma Station on 21 September 1895. It handled passengers and freight from the start. On 1 September 1907 the line was bought under the Railway Nationalisation Act, and the station became a station of the Imperial Railways Agency.
On 8 April 1969 weekday rush-hour trains began running directly from the Eidan Tozai Line, now part of Tokyo Metro. On 15 July 1972 a four-track section between Ryōgoku and Tsudanuma was completed, and rapid Sōbu Line trains began running. On 1 October 1974 the four-track section between Tsudanuma and Chiba was completed, and freight handling ended.
On 1 April 1987 the national railway was split up, and the station became part of JR East. Automatic ticket gates started on 28 November 1992. On 20 July 1996 a guide chime for visually impaired passengers was installed. Suica could be used from 18 November 2001.
On 1 November 2002 a shop called Dila Tsudanuma opened inside the station, and it was renewed on 20 March 2011. On 31 August 2019 the Bi-u Plaza travel counter closed. On 7 August 2021 a photo rally about the city border near the Maebara shopping street in Funabashi put a strip of tape marking the border on the platform. On 28 February 2023 a special station-name sign was shown for that day only, to mark the last business day of Tsudanuma Parco.
