Wakoshi is a major railway station in Tokyo.

Wakoshi Station (和光市駅) is in Wakoshi, Saitama. Tokyo Metro and Tobu Railway run it. The Fukutoshin Line, Yurakucho Line and Tobu Tojo Line serve it. The station opened on 1 February 1934 as Niikura Station.

History

The station opened on 1 February 1934 as Niikura Station (にいくら駅). On 12 July 1934 its name was written 新倉駅. It was renamed Yamatomachi Station (大和町駅) on 1 October 1951. Its platform length was extended in October 1961. On 20 December 1970, it became Wakoshi Station (和光市駅).

On 25 August 1987, the Teito Rapid Transit Authority's Yurakucho Line (now Tokyo Metro) opened between this station and Eidan Narimasu (then). With the timetable change that day, through running with the Yurakucho Line began. The station also became an express stop on the Tobu Tojo Line. On 1 April 2004, the subway station came under Tokyo Metro after the Eidan was privatised. On 17 March 2005, a timetable change made it a limited express stop. All Tobu Tojo Line trains now stop here. On 5 April 2007, departure melodies began on the Tobu Tojo platforms.

In 2008, Tokyo Metro set up its first express-type trains that start and end at this station. These were Junkyu on the Yurakucho Line, and Kyuko and Tsukin-kyuko on the Fukutoshin Line. On 8 June 2008, the Tobu Tojo limited express service ended. A new rapid express stops here, and the TJ Liner passes through without stopping. On 14 June 2008, the Fukutoshin Line opened, and through running with the Tobu Tojo Line began. On 6 March 2010, the Yurakucho Line Junkyu service ended. On 7 July 2012, platform doors came into use on platforms 2 and 3. On 16 March 2013, a Tobu rapid service began stopping here. On 26 March 2016, platform doors came into use on platforms 1 and 4. The same day, a timetable change set up trains called F Liner (Fライナー) for some through services.

On 12 December 2019, the EQUiA PREMIE (エキア プレミエ) Wako shopping area opened inside the ticket gates. On 26 March 2020, its station building area opened. In 2023, the Tobu Tojo rapid service was abolished. The F Liner name was changed to apply to rapid express trains on the Tobu Tojo Line.
