Nakanoshima Station (中野島駅) is a ground-level station in Kawasaki. East Japan Railway Company runs it. It is on the Nambu Line. It opened on 1 November 1927.
History
Nakanoshima Station opened on 1 November 1927 as Nakanoshima Stop (中野島停留場). That was when the Nambu Railway opened between Noborito and Daimaru, now Minami-Tama. On 1 August 1929 the stop became a station and began handling freight. On 1 April 1944 the Nambu Railway was nationalised, and the station became part of the Nambu Line of the Ministry of Transport and Communications. On 15 December 1947 the station moved to its present site.
The old site was a short distance toward Noborito. A shopping street, Nakanoshima Chūō Shopping Street, still runs from near that old site. Freight handling ended on 1 July 1955. Parcel handling ended on 10 April 1958. On 1 April 1987 the station became part of East Japan Railway Company (JR East). Automatic ticket gates were installed on 25 February 1994. The Suica IC card became usable on 18 November 2001.
The Midori no Madoguchi ticket office closed on 22 June 2007. A reserved-seat ticket machine was installed the next day, on 23 June 2007. On 7 June 2019 a temporary ticket gate began use.
On 9 April 2011 the station became a stop for the revived rapid service on the Nambu Line. The start had first been set for an earlier date, but it was put back after a large disaster. On 15 March 2014 the rapid service zone was extended to Inagi-Naganuma, and this station became a stop that rapid trains pass.
