Nishifu Station (西府駅) is a ground-level station with a concourse in Fuchu, Tokyo. East Japan Railway Company runs it on the Nambu Line. It opened on 14 March 2009.
History
In July 1997 JR East set the conditions for a new station with the preparatory committee of the Nishifu land readjustment association, which was the predecessor of the association. In March 2004 JR East, Fuchu City and the association signed a memorandum on the new station. In June 2005 the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism approved the new station. On 13 July 2005 the three parties signed the memorandum again, and JR East announced the station to the media. In December 2005 the three parties agreed on the detailed design.
On 2 February 2007 JR East's Hachioji branch announced the station name Nishifu. In November 2007 the tracks near the station site were moved. The work was done between the first and last trains, after close coordination with the works office. The plan for the station in 2008 included a transport plaza on the north side, with stops for bus routes and taxis and bicycle parking. Two facing platforms were planned, with land set aside for longer trains. The station building was to be elevated, with a free passage across the station and two lifts each for the platforms and the passage. JR East carried out the design and construction under an agreement among the three parties.
The cost of the station building, the free passage and the transport plaza was shared among the land readjustment association, Fuchu City and JR East. The station opened on 14 March 2009. On 9 April 2011 a new rapid service began that stops at every station between Noborito and Tachikawa, and Nishifu became one of its stops. On 14 March 2015 rapid services started running on the whole Nambu Line, and the station became a station the rapid trains pass through.
On 6 January 2022 a booth-type shared office called STATION BOOTH opened. On 25 June 2024 smart platform doors (スマートホームドア) came into use.
