Oimachi Station (大井町駅) is in Shinagawa, Tokyo, and is run by East Japan Railway Company, Tokyo Waterfront Area Rapid Transit and Tokyu Railways. Its lines are the TWR Rinkai Line, the Keihin–Tōhoku Line and the OM Tokyu Oimachi Line, and it opened on 20 December 1914.
History
The site began in 1901 as the Oi liaison office on the national Tokaido Line (大井聯絡所). On 1 August 1901, a Yamanote branch line opened between the liaison office and Osaki. On 20 December 1914, the Keihin Line began running, and the liaison office was upgraded to Oimachi Station for passengers. The Yamanote branch line between Osaki and Oimachi closed on 16 April 1916.
Tokyu's Oimachi Line opened on 6 July 1927 from Oimachi to Ookayama. The line was then run by Meguro Kamata Electric Railway, now Tokyu. In 1942, Tokyo Yokohama Electric Railway (now Tokyu) rebuilt its station building and added a platform for getting off trains. The national railway's west station building was rebuilt on 29 July 1957. On 15 September 1957, the Keihin-Tohoku platform was extended toward Shinagawa, and a connecting overpass linked the national railway station with the Tokyu station. Freight handling at the national railway station ended on 15 March 1972.
The national railway station became a JR East station on 1 April 1987, when the national railway was split up and privatized. JR East began building its station building on 5 July 1990. Automatic ticket gates came in on 31 August 1991. The Atre Oimachi station building and an east-west free passage opened on 11 March 1993. Suica became usable on 18 November 2001. The new JR East east station building opened on 25 November 2002, and the TWR Rinkai Line station opened on 1 December 2002.
The Tokyu platform was widened on 6 March 2005. PASMO became usable on Tokyu on 18 March 2007. The Atre Oimachi building was renewed on 20 March 2008. Atre Oimachi 2 opened in the new JR East east building on 3 March 2011. Tokyu platform doors started on 3 March 2012. Keihin-Tohoku platform doors started on 14 February 2018. The View Plaza travel office closed on 31 March 2018.
Platform doors on the Rinkai Line started on 16 February 2020 and 24 February 2020. The Tokyu commuter pass window closed on 30 April 2021. The Midori no Madoguchi ticket office closed on 31 October 2022, and talking reserved-seat ticket machines were added on 1 November 2022. In August 2024, platform doors were removed from the front cars toward Omiya ahead of track work. On 17 November 2024, track switching work suspended Keihin-Tohoku trains between Kamata and Shinagawa from the first train until the late afternoon. In August 2025, platform doors were put back on those cars. OIMACHI TRACKS opened on 28 March 2026, with a new JR East ticket gate, the Tracks Gate.
