Tennodai Station (天王台駅) is in Abiko, Chiba Prefecture. East Japan Railway Company runs it on the Jōban Line, for both rapid and local trains. It opened on 20 April 1971.
History
In February 1970 a new station between Abiko and Toride was decided. Groundbreaking was held on 20 April 1970. The station opened on 20 April 1971 as a Japanese National Railways station, with an elevated station building and the platform now used by local trains.
The rapid down line moved to the new platform on 6 November 1980, and the rapid up line on 16 February 1981. The old platform was rebuilt for local trains in January 1982. On 15 November 1982 the Abiko to Toride section opened with separate rapid and local tracks.
A Midori no Madoguchi counter opened in May 1986. Platforms were lengthened in March 1987 so that longer rapid trains could stop. JR East took over on 1 April 1987. From 13 March 1988 medium-distance local trains began stopping here. From April 1988 the station was independent of Abiko and had its own first stationmaster. Automatic ticket gates opened on 23 April 1993.
An escalator was installed inside the gates on 25 December 1998. Suica became usable on 18 November 2001. Elevators were installed at the north exit on 21 December 2001 and at the south exit on 13 December 2002. The Midori no Madoguchi closed on 2 June 2006 and a reserved-seat machine took over. Elevators for the rapid platforms were installed in March 2009.
Smart platform doors started on the platforms for local trains on 14 December 2023.
