History
The Kōbu Railway opened Ushigome Station (牛込駅) on 9 October 1894, between Shinjuku and Ushigome. The Iidamachi to Ushigome section opened on 3 April 1895. Electric trains began running between Iidamachi and Nakano on 21 August 1904. The railway was nationalised on 1 October 1906. On 12 October 1909, the station was assigned to the Chūō East Line. On 15 November 1928, Ushigome and Iidamachi stations were merged into Iidabashi Station (飯田橋駅) during a quadruple-track project between Shinjuku and Iidamachi.
Services and buildings changed between 1949 and 1974. Japanese National Railways was formed on 1 June 1949. Luggage handling ended on 1 May 1960. The Tōzai Line station opened on 23 December 1964. The Toden Edogawa tram line closed in 1968. The Yūrakuchō Line station opened on 30 October 1974.

A new west exit building opened on 12 July 2020, and the Chūō–Sōbu Local platforms were moved west. On 21 July 2020, a viewing terrace for a designated site was opened, and the Ekiute Iidabashi shopping area had its grand opening. Part of the shopping area had opened on 25 August 2020. Smart platform doors started at JR East on 5 June 2022, and Eki-net Q-Ticket began on 1 October 2025.
